The Sutherlin volleyball team beat South Umpqua in straight sets Saturday to win the Far West League tournament championship.

Sutherlin will host a first round state playoff game next Saturday November 2. Set scores were 25-22, 25-11, 26-24. Alyssa Fox had 14 kills, three blocks and 15 digs for the Bulldogs (17-9). “Winning first in league is such an incredible feeling,” Alyssa Fox said. “It being my senior year and my last chance to achieve such a goal makes it so much more special and I’m so glad I got to experience it with such an amazing group of girls.“ Kaybie Rutledge had seven kills, six digs and one ace. Carmen Ganger added four blocks, six digs, three kills and one ace. Mallory Turner had one ace and five kills. “It feels amazing,” Sutherlin coach Kathy Rice said. “These girls have worked all season to come together on the court. They’re playing with confidence now it’s really fun to watch.” The No. 5 ranked Lancers (17-7) beat No. 6 Cascade Christian 25-11, 23-25, 25-21, 11-25, 19-17 earlier on Saturday to advance to the final against Sutherlin. Both the Lancers and Cascade Christian will also play in the state playoffs, with South Umpqua coming out as the second seed from the Far West League.
