UVC Boys Soccer Defeated Douglas 7-2 Today
The 1A Umpqua Valley Christian boys soccer team defeated 3A Douglas 7-2 Tuesday night in a Special District 4 matchup at Fir Grove field. UVC was led by three goals from Spencer Adams, while Sam Guastaferro and Koby Sewall each had a pair of goals. The Monarchs (4-1, 3-1) scored first in the 3rd minute on a Spencer Adams goal. Sam Guastaferro then scored in the 31st minute on an assist from Adams which made it 2-0 at halftime. “I took for granite our ability, I made some changes that I shouldn’t have made. We came in a little overconfident,” UVC coach Chris Guastaferro said. “Douglas came in tough, they were aggressive and were first to every ball early.” Sam scored again in the 47th minute on an assist from Koby Sewall. Adams scored in the 60th minute on an assist from Sewall. Sewall scored in the 66th minute unassisted off a corner kick directly into the goal. “I think today we started off the first half kind of slow. We had a couple good opportunities,” Sam Guastaferro said. “Once they scored we turned it on with our possession. We can always work on communication but were a tight group and I think our chemistry is good this year and I think that can take us far.” Gavyn Jones scored two goal for Douglas (1-3, 1-3) in the 72nd and 83rd minutes. Adams added his hat trick in the 76th minute on an assist from Devin McLaughlin. Sewall added his second goal in the 88th minute on an assist from Adams. “We played a little flat in the first half, but we changed back and like a flip of a switch we turned it on, Douglas couldn’t do anything,” Chris Guastaferro said. “We played as a team in the second half, our new attack transferred well to the game tonight." UVC plays at 3A Sutherlin on Friday at 3:30 in a battle for second place in Special District 4 as both teams are tied for second at 3-1 in league. “That’s going to be big, were going to have to change the way we come out to start the game and finish strong and hopefully have a good result.” Sam Guastaferro said.
