We Built A Soft Trail in the Stewart Park Natural Area Today!
This afternoon, 40 track and field and cross country athletes from Umpqua Community College joined us at the Stewart Park Natural Area to construct a soft trail for walking, jogging or running. The area around the soft trail was also pruned up to improve visibility and safety in the park. Alan King, UCC coach reached out to me this past month with idea of getting a soft trail in the area after reading about our hopes of improving the area in the Stewart Park Natural Area. So we met with Parks Horticulturist Tracy Pope and Parks Superintendent Brendon Demuth and came up with a plan to build a 1000 meter soft trail all the way through the area. This past week, Tracy, Brendon and the parks department got everything lined up for the big work day today. There was lots of behind the scenes work that was done and I just want to say a big thank you to them and everyone at the Parks Department for all their help in making this happen. Also want to give a big shout out to Nate Frosland, who helped a ton with the preparation for this day. He was out with me for a few hours yesterday doing chainsaw work and another 3 hours of chainsawing today. Neither of will be able to move in the morning haha. Thanks again to UCC track coaches Alan King and assistant coach Renate Richardson for all your help today! Also, to all the UCC athletes for all their hard work. They busted out a lot of work and were an awesome group to work with! Also Josh Gaunt and Abraham Finlay for all your help today as well. Lots more projects and work days in the area to come but things are starting to look amazing in there! If you get a chance, stop by and take a look at all the changes and join us next time!
