Currently, the Milepost 97 Fire is estimated to be 150 acres in size. At this point, the only evacuation notice that has been issued is a level 1 evacuation (be ready) for the four homes on Ritchie Road, which is south of the fire, near exit 95 (Canyon Creek Exit). At this point, the majority of the fire is spreading up the hillside, away from I-5 and is not threatening the towns of Canyonville or Riddle or the community of Azalea. If additional evacuation notices need to be issued, fire crews will coordinate with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to issue those. In the event of an evacuation, deputies will go door to door where the evacuation notice has been issued, notifying the affected residents of the evacuation status. In addition, the Douglas County reverse 911 system will be used to notify those residents who are being issued the evacuation notice. All landline phones in Douglas County are in the reverse 911 system, however, cell phones and VoIP phones are not.
