The Sutherlin volleyball team defeated South Umpqua in four sets in a cross county matchup Thursday night in the Far West League.

Set scores were 25-19, 24-26, 25-16, 25-20. Sutherlin (15-9, 7-2) with the win sits tied atop the Far West League with Cascade Christian (11-6, 7-2) but holds the tiebreaker over them with one game remaining against Brookings-Harbor (4-12, 0-8). “I am so proud of our girls,” Sutherlin coach Kathy Rice said. “They have worked hard all season and are putting it all together at the right time.” Senior Alyssa Fox had 18 kills, 25 digs and four aces for the Bulldogs. Kaybie Rutledge had nine kills, 10 digs, five blocks and one ace. Senior Carmen Ganger added five kills and five blocks while Makayla Murphy had 16 assists, eight digs, two kills and two aces. Tianna Murphy had 14 assists, six digs and one ace and Mallory Turner had four kills, one ace and one block. “It was a full team effort and puts us solidly in first place in the league.” Rice said. South Umpqua (15-6, 5-4) sits in third place in the Far West League. The Lancers play Douglas next Tuesday. Sutherlin plays at Brookings-Harbor next Tuesday at 6 p.m. and if they win they will clinch the Far West League title.
