Saturday Morning 12 Noon Archie Creek Fire Update

7:36 PM · Sep 12, 2020

There was no overflight mapping done on the Archie Creek Fire since yesterday so we do not have a new boundary line or updated fire size yet. I’m hoping that will come sometime today, but no word yet. Here is an update from Steven Hawkins, Deputy IC for NW Team 9 this morning. Here is a transcription of his video talk this morning. “Well, yesterday the crews made excellent progress working on direct line construction with both the heavy equipment and handling around the structures in the Glide and Idleyld Park area. That work continued to move south towards Little River in the community of Peel doing both line construction and point protection as a fire moved downhill to the South. 00:26 They'll continue that work today trying to get a line type back in moving to the east moving from Glide to the north again. Crews worked diligently yesterday getting the line tied in along the edge of the fire with some contingency line and then are looking for opportunities to go closer to the fire with line. 00:50 Moving to the north all the way up in here to Calapooia Creek the fire is a holding on the creek there and we're moving forward on this. The north moving towards the east line and from Steamboat Springs coming the other way to work that together to get an opportunity to put in a line in there and prep that line for future. As the fire continues to spread that way to have a control line in place they also able to continue to protect and improve line around the Steamboat Springs area and crews will continue to look at opportunities for road prep in this area as the fire continues to spread towards the north and east there, it'll continue to work it opportunities to get this line checked but the primary focus today again is in these areas with structures and residences and we're working to not only to get lines in place but the secure those lines up so that there's no threat to the adjacent property in there. With that, that's the end of the report and thank you. Here is his full video update: https://www.facebook.com/120244459815292/videos/982343205602364 Weather Update- Dense smoke advisory is in effect until 8 am Sunday morning. Smoke conditions will remain bad for the rest of the weekend. Not as much wind is making it in as they first thought, leaving a thick blanket of smoke. Forecasts are saying that the coast might get a little rain but they are not expecting much inland yet. The first front of the season usually dissipates as it hits the dry air that it encounters. Cooler temperatures and higher humidity is on the way. However, we could see some gusty winds next week. Here is some updated facts about the fire: Total Personnel on the fire - 369 Acres by ownership of the burned area BLM = 34,975 Private = 58,462 State of Oregon = 39 Forest Service = 22,473 More information will come as soon as I have it. Thanks everyone and have a great day! Photos are from up in the Susan Creek area along Highway 138 courtesy of ODOT.
