Atmospheric River Set to Arrive Early Tuesday Morning In Douglas County

Significant rainfall is expected to fall in Douglas County starting early Tuesday morning. Things should be dry Sunday and Monday before the new system arrives. Here is the latest update from NWS Medford: ...Flood Potential Outlook for quick rises on rivers and streams in the following counties. Oregon...Coos...Curry...Douglas...Josephine... A front will move in Monday night, then stall over the area through Tuesday night. The front will then weaken in place Wednesday. This will bring a prolonged period of moderate rain to the area. Small streams and creeks will see rapid rises during this event, and main stem rivers will see significant rises as well. At this time, widespread flooding is not anticipated, but some smaller streams may create minor flooding in some locations. Recently burned areas may see some flooding and debris flows with this event. The precipitation will end by Wednesday night, but larger rivers such as the Coquille will continue to rise, cresting Thursday. Main stem rivers are not expected to reach flood stage during this event. A flood potential outlook is issued when there is the potential for significant rises or flooding along rivers and streams. The exact scenario for flooding remains uncertain. This product will be updated as necessary. Watches and warnings may be issued by the National Weather Service if this situation worsens.
