8:06 PM · May 12, 2021

There were two more fires that started in Douglas County Wednesday morning according to DFPA. Rice Creek Fire: Crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association responded to a natural cover fire Wednesday morning in the Rice Creek drainage, located about seven miles northwest of Riddle. Crews arrived on scene of the incident shortly after 7:00 AM and located the fire burning alongside Rice Creek Road. Firefighters stopped the forward spread of the fire at 1/10th acre and are expected to remain on scene for most of the day due to an excessive amount of mop up that will be required to fully extinguish the fire. The cause of the Rice Creek Fire is currently under investigation. Windy – Glen Fire: Firefighters from DFPA and the Glendale Rural Fire Department responded to a grass fire Wednesday morning around 10:45 AM that was located near the intersection of Windy Creek Road and Azalea – Glen Road, near Glendale. The Windy – Glen Fire burned a quarter acre of grass in a field before crews could contain the blaze. The fire investigation indicated that the Windy – Glen Fire was caused by an individual who was trying to burn grass and weeds to clean a fence line before the fire escaped containment.
