Squirrel Causes Grass Fire West of Oakland
3:00 AM · Sep 21, 2021A squirrel that caused a short in a transformer sparked a grass fire Monday afternoon that was located four miles west of Oakland, near the 5,000 block of Green Valley Road. Crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and Oakland Rural Fire Department arrived on scene of the incident, which was named the Gross Mountain Fire, shortly after 2:20 PM and reported a slow-moving grass fire that was burning through a grazed off field. Fire crews quickly stopped the forward spread of the Gross Mountain fire at two and a half acres of grass and remained on scene for about an hour, mopping up hot spots. One barn and another outbuilding were threatened by the fire, but no damage was reported. Fire crews were assisted on scene by personnel from the Douglas Electric Cooperative. Via DFPA
