Roseburg Food Truck Now Accepting Lightning Network Payments

9:47 PM · Mar 21, 2022

A Roseburg food truck is now accepting Bitcoin payments over the lightning network. The lightning network allows near instant payments between parties for only a few cents per transaction (few cent fee paid by the buyer). Credit card transactions on the other hand, cost merchants on average 2.5-3% plus a card swipe fee. For a $50 transaction, David would normally lose $1.40 of the transaction amount to his card processor. With the lightning network, David would receive nearly 100% of the $50 which increases his profit considerably. David Reeck is no stranger to using innovative payment technologies. Reeck shared that he started utilizing online banking to pay bills back in 1984 when it first became an option. The Roseburg resident also formerly lived in China for 10 years where he worked for General Motors as the China manager for electrification strategy. China has been on the forefront of emerging payment technologies over the past few decades. David especially noticed a significant level of digital payment adoption between a visit in 2016 and 2019. On the 2016 visit he said that cash was still being used quite a bit in China. When he returned in 2019 however, almost all transactions were digital using apps and QR codes. David has operated the Chinese Xiang Cuisine food truck with his wife, Sami, who is also the owner and chef. The food truck has been open in Roseburg since the beginning of 2020. Over the past few years, Reeck has been learning more and more about the rapidly emerging cryptocurrency space. Recently he heard about CashApp adding lightning network payments for their 44 million monthly active users. Those users can now easily make lightning network payments to merchants like David. It’s also believed that Square, the company behind CashApp and Square merchant terminals will be making it easier for merchants to accept lightning payments right in their Square terminals. Currently merchants need to use a separate app like Muun Wallet to produce the lightning invoice. The easiest way for someone in the community to pay Reeck using the lightning network is using Cash App. https://cash.app/ After downloading Cash App, someone can click the Bitcoin tab and purchase enough Bitcoin to pay for their meal. When ordering your food, let Reeck know you would like to pay with a Bitcoin lightning payment. Reeck will then hold up a lightning network QR code that can be scanned from inside Cash App. The user will then be asked if they approve the payment amount and then submit the payment. The Chinese Xiang Cuisine food truck can be found at Two Shy Brewery in Roseburg on Monday’s for lunch and dinner from 12 noon - 7pm. On Wednesday’s, they can be found at Lookingglass Brewery out in Winston from 12 noon - 7pm, though not March 23rd due to an event.
