Two Wildfires Start North of Diamond Lake

2:50 AM · Jul 31, 2022

Two new confirmed wildfires have started up in the Umpqua National Forest District north of Diamond Lake. One at Windigo Pass and one just north of Lemolo Lake. The fire near Windigo Pass can be seen with the most air support traffic from the AC90. Update from US National Forest Umpqua National Forest at 7:32pm - "Ground and aviation fire suppression resources are responding to a new fire start on the Umpqua National Forest. The fire is actively burning in timber near Windigo Pass off Forest Service Road 60 on the Douglas and Klamath county divide. The fire is estimated to be approximately 100 acres. A closure for public safety is currently underway on the Pacific Crest trail (#2000) in the vicinity of the fire. More information will be provided as it becomes available." Update from DFPA - "1 new start has been estimated to be a 1/2 acre fire near Lemolo Lake, with suppression resources currently responding." I pulled up a satellite image showing the Windigo fire I believe and it showed up around 4:30 pm or so Saturday afternoon. You can see it in the third image. There has been lightning strikes in the area this afternoon. More information to come.
