Area Schools Receive False Reports of Active Shooter Today, Lockdowns Lifted

6:21 PM · Feb 21, 2023

Update: I just spoke with Superintendent Cordon. There is no credible threat to any area schools. Law enforcement is, out of an abundance of caution still going to clear each school, starting with Roseburg High School, and then they will clear the other schools. Here is the official statement the Roseburg School District just sent out to parents. "Law enforcement has confirmed that the alleged threats to schools in Douglas County are not credible. Out of an abundance of caution, law enforcement is arriving at each school to conduct a walk-through. School will resume under normal operations once each building has been cleared by law enforcement. We understand how difficult these threats can be to families and students. If you feel the need to pick your child up today once the building has reopened, please do so." Updated 3:30 pm The Douglas County Sheriff's Office just released the following statement: "All Douglas County schools have been released from lockdown. The Sheriff's Office, working in conjunction with other local law enforcement agencies, responded this morning to false reports of active shooters in various Douglas County schools. Law Enforcement responded to each report utilizing active shooter response protocols and assessed each situation. Out of an abundance of caution, all schools were advised to activate their lockdown procedures. Each school in the county was visited by law enforcement and determined to be safe at which point that school would be released from the lockdown. All lockdowns have been lifted and classes have resumed. If you have further concerns, please contact your local school office. The Sheriff's Office was in communication with school administrators and the Douglas Education Services District who assisted greatly during the initial response phase."
