Fifth graders from across the district learned about nutrition, healthy food choices, math skills, and cooking techniques and presentation by participating in the Future Chefs competition earlier this month. With white chefs' hats gleaming, these young culinary masters whipped up a variety of dishes. Participants in the event competed for a set of cookware and a spot at the national competition. The event was put on by district food services provider Sodexo. Judges included Superintendent Jared Cordon, Transportation Supervisor Denny Austin and guest chef Serge Queant. Judging criteria included originality, health attributes, ease of preparation, kid appeal, plate presentation, use of featured ingredients, taste, and student chef presentation to judges. Congratulations to Hunter Blatter, who won the competition with his Chocolate Covered Strawberries! Margaret Kilby won second place with her Zucchini Bake, and Seamus Morales won third with his Sugar with Strawberries.
