More Areas Reopen at Crater Lake
3:52 PM · May 26, 2023If you're planning a trip to Crater Lake National Park, here's some advice to help make your visit smoother and more enjoyable. First, buy your entry pass before you arrive. You can do this at www.recreation.gov. To avoid long lines at the park entrance on Highway 62 (note that the North Entrance is closed), try to arrive before 10 am or after 3 pm. You can drive up to Rim Village and a mile beyond to Discovery Point. But remember, West Rim Drive past Wizard Island Overlook is closed every day from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. This is for snowplowing work, and no one can walk, ski, or snowshoe in this area during these hours. Stay away from any heavy equipment for your safety. Parking can be tricky. If you go farther into Rim Village, you might find a spot more easily. For those hoping to hike, know that the Garfield Peak trail is closed. Other summer hiking trails are also not accessible right now because of snow. It’s important thing to remember is to be patient, respectful, and kind to the park and to others.
