DFPA News Release: Days Coffee Fire Update
The Days Coffee Fire, located six miles northwest of Tiller is now estimated to be 70 acres in size and burning through both fell and bucked timber and second growth timber. No homes are threatened by the fire at this time. Prior to night fall, two helicopters were used to slow the fires spread as firefighters and bull dozers worked their way around the fire on the ground. Gusty winds fanned the flames well into the evening, challenging firefighters with rapid fire growth and multiple spot fires. Now that nightfall has arrived, aviation resources have been grounded until daylight, but firefighters and ground resources will stay engaged and will be actively working on the fire, overnight. Tonight’s night shift includes three engines, two tenders, two bull dozers, and four hand crews. In addition to DFPA resources, personnel and equipment from the Oregon Department of Forestry, Coos Forest Protective Association, Umpqua National Forest, Bureau of Land Management, industrial landowners and operators, and contract fire crews are assisting with the fire.
