Great Horned Owl Rescue
3:18 AM Β· Jan 8, 2024A few days ago I got a call from Lee Paterson, (our former Roseburg School District Superintendent) who found an injured Great Horned Owl on his property. Unfortunately, by the time we made it out to the property, it had made it through a fence and we couldn't find it. This evening, Lee spotted the owl up by his house while he was out with his dog. Lee got ahold of me right away, and Abraham and I were there 10 minutes later. With a bit of effort, the three of us were able to kind of corral the owl next to a fence before Abraham was able to delicately pounce on it with a towel and get it safely wrapped up. These owls have very sharp talons and beaks, so Abraham wore thick leather gloves when capturing it. We've already transferred the owl to one of our Forever Wild Wildlife Rescue rehabbers Kate West Rader, and tomorrow morning it will be transferred to our raptor specialist Meriann Shepherd. Big thank you to Lee Patterson for keeping an eye out for the owl and getting ahold of us, and Abraham for capturing it. And thank you to Kate and Meriann for all your rehabbing work with it! π¦π§‘ For more information about Forever Wild Wildlife Rescue, check out their website at https://www.fwwr.org/
