The City of Roseburg is moving forward with construction of new mountain bike and hiking trails at Sunshine Park after City Council approved a contract with Nature Bound Construction, LLC. The project will add seven new trails totaling 2.9 miles to the park, featuring beginner-level trails, intermediate flow trails, and an ADA-accessible universal trail. The trail system will include multiple hub locations connecting the various routes across the hillside terrain east of the existing ball fields. Nature Bound Construction submitted the lowest of two bids received, with a winning total of $293,398.27. The project is funded in part by a $148,789.59 grant from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department Recreational Trails Program, with the remainder coming from the city's Bike Trail Capital Outlay Fund. The contractor will be issued a notice to proceed in March, with construction expected to wrap up by the end of June. The trails project has been years in the making. City Council first authorized the grant application in May 2021, and the city received the Notice to Proceed on the grant funding in July 2025.
