Remembering Brian Pargeter
Brian passed away on August 16, 2025. He was born in Oakland, CA. on July 22,1942 to Thomas H. and Elsie (Busenbark) Pargeter. Shortly after the war, they moved back to Roseburg. Brian was educated in Roseburg schools, and graduated RHS in 1960. He served two years of active duty in the Navy. Higher education included a year at Colorado School of Mines, with an eventual BS degree from Oregon State. Brian married Penny (Ostrander) in 1963. They were blessed with two fine sons, Tom and Jason. Following in his father’s footsteps, Brian joined the family business, Umpqua Insurance Agency, where he worked for 51 years until his retirement in 2018. A sharp business mind, paired with a compassionate heart made him a trusted advisor and friend to the community. Brian was a tireless supporter of his hometown and generously gave his time and talents to numerous organizations over the years. Community service included Roseburg Jaycees, Roseburg City Council, YMCA Board, Mercy Medical Board, Umpqua Community College Foundation Board, President, Oregon Independent Insurance Agents, Roseburg Chamber of Commerce First Citizen, 2004, Douglas Community Bank Board, Roseburg Country Club Board, and a 50 year member, Mensa, Patriot’s Group, and financial contributor to many causes. Brian had a wonderfully quick sense of humor and a sharp thoughtful perspective. He was an avid traveler who set foot on every continent except Antarctica. He was a man of conviction, grace and generosity. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Penny, his sons Tom and Jason, grandchildren, Kelsey, Ian, Ash, Myan and Jacob, his sister Carolyn Calvo, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and host of dear friends and many acquaintances. We are grateful for moments shared, joys, challenges, and lessons learned. As we say farewell, we also celebrate a life well lived. He will be dearly missed. Contributions in his memory may be made to a charity or organization of choice. Cheers and memories will be shared at Roseburg Country Club on September 27, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.
