Stewart Park Natural Area Cleanup Completed
This past month we completed a big project to cleanup and open up the area behind the Duck Pond in Roseburg, the Stewart Park Natural Area. If you drive Stewart Parkway or Garden Valley you have likely seen a big change when driving by! The work included invasive plant and tree removal, overgrowth removal, reduce fire fuels, tree trimming to open up line of sight, extensive trash removal as well as cleaning up in and around Newton Creek. Our goal was to clean up this area and make it inviting and accessible for everyone in our community to get outside and enjoy this beautiful part of Stewart Park right in the middle of Roseburg. I want to say a big thank you to Umpqua Health for their grant that enabled us to do this project. Thank you also to the Ford Family Foundation for their grant to help us complete part of the work. I also want to thank Liz Hill and the rest of the crew at Envision Roseburg for all your support in helping get this project to fruition. Also, big thanks to Kevin Saylor Excavation who did an incredible job on this project and went above and beyond with his work! We started doing cleanups in this area over 5 years ago, so I'm really thankful this work has finally been completed. Lastly, this Saturday Nov 29th at 9am we are going to meet to spread bark chips on the trails all the way through the the area we opened up and we would love to have you join us! We'll meet in front of the Duck Pond at the entrance of the trail. Bring gloves and a hard rake if you have one, though we should have some extras. We'll also bring trash grabbers and trash bags for anyone who would like to help pick up litter around the area. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Incredible video by Elijah Finlay!
What a huge impact that had on the area. Great job guys! Safety was the biggest issue and it definitely feels safer through there now.
