Thursday afternoon update on the MP 97 fire...

The fire is currently estimated to be 35 - 40 acres in size. Fire activity is starting to pick up as the temperatures increase. Currently, we have five helicopters working on the fire. Tanker 62 out of Medford has been ordered for another drop along the head of the fire and two additional Single Engine Air Tankers are on order as well. At this time, the fire is burning up hill and is not moving towards Canyonville. The southern flank of the fire has been more active this afternoon. If you are driving through the area, please slow down and pay attention! Safety for the public and our firefighters is our number one priority. Please do not take pictures or video of the fire while you are driving through the area and do not stop along side the freeway.
