2019 Douglas County Christmas Tree Arrives Tomorrow
11:08 PM · Nov 19, 2019The Douglas County Board of Commissioners are excited to officially kick off the holiday season with the arrival of the 2019 Douglas County Christmas Tree. The 2019 Christmas Tree will arrive at the Douglas County Courthouse via a low-boy trailer around 7:00 am tomorrow morning (Wednesday, November 20) for installation. “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas and we are excited to kick off the holiday season with the installation and lighting of our annual Douglas County Christmas Tree. Our Public Works Crew has selected another beautiful tree to grace the front lawn of the courthouse, and our Building Facilities Department is prepped and ready to make it glow bright with holiday lights once again this year,” commented Commissioner Tom Kress. The 2019 Douglas County Christmas Tree was harvested from Douglas County lands today and will made its way to our Fleet Shop to be prepped for installation. Tomorrow morning, bright and early, the tree, estimated at 40-45 feet tall, will arrive at the Douglas County Courthouse, where crews will place the mighty fir in its traditional location, front and center on the front lawn. (Please note that necessary space in front of the Courthouse will be blocked off for the installation.) Starting this week, our Building Facilities staff will work to turn the tree, the Douglas County Courthouse, as well as the Justice Center into a festive holiday display. The lights on the tree will be dark until the tree lighting ceremony on Saturday, November 30. Special thanks to Douglas County Public Works crews, Building Facilities Department, Douglas Electric Cooperative and Jack Mathis Construction-Crane Service for the collaborative effort. Please note, there will be some traffic congestion in the downtown area on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, as well as Thursday, January 2, 2020, while crews install and then remove the tree. Additionally, our Building Facilities crews will be outside in the next few weeks installing all the holiday décor to the Courthouse and Justice Building. Safety is always a priority for the public and we are asking motorists and pedestrians to use caution as they travel in the downtown area and visit the Courthouse. Expect delays and seek alternate routes whenever possible. Please follow and obey all posted signs, warnings and barrier notifications. Via Douglas County Government
