Fire on Reservoir Hill Today for Prescribed Training Burn

Personnel from Roseburg Fire Department, Douglas Fire District 2 and Douglas Forest Patrol began training exercises using a prescribed burn on Reservoir Hill in Roseburg this morning. They burned two sections of city owned land each about a 1/10th of an acre in size. There were about 18 personnel working at a time during each of the two fires. A fixed wing aircraft belonging to DFPA also took part in the training exercise as a fire spotter. These fixed wing aircraft can provide fire crews extremely valuable information on the fires to fire crews. The fire department would like to remind the public that drones are not allowed in the sky over fires as they interfere with both fixed wing planes and helicopters both fighting the fires and providing information to ground crews. The prescribed burn will continue on Wednesday and Friday of this week as crews burn 4 additional areas on the hill. This is the same location where a unplanned fire started last summer and burned most of Reservoir Hill. Big thank you to all the local fire and government agencies that worked to make this training possible. https://youtu.be/VmcgqRPysL8
